Why take the CELTA?
CELTA qualifies those with little or no teaching experience to teach English as a Foreign
Language, an exciting career choice which offers a range of travel and career opportunities.
As the CELTA is awarded by Cambridge ESOL, part of the University of Cambridge, it is a
guarantee of quality and recognition. More than 10,000 people pass CELTA every year.
What will the course involve?
The course covers the principles of good teaching. It offers a variety of practical techniques
for teaching English to adult learners, and gives candidates hands-on teaching practice.
There is continuous assessment, with no final examination. There are five main aspects to
the course:
Learners and teachers, and the teaching / learning context,
Language analysis and awareness,
Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing,
Planning, and selecting resources for different contexts
Developing teaching skills and professionalism.
Will my CELTA be recognised?
The qualification is accepted worldwide by language schools and other organisations which employ English language teachers.
The CELTA is accredited by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. |
Start dates in 2010: 2 August, 2 November
Cost: £1200 tuitionfor the 4-week course/Half-board accommodation 4 weeks: £462
Applications must be made in writing at least 8 weeks
in advance of the course. There will be a pre-course
writing task and an interview as part of the selection
procedure.
Candidates should:
Be at least 18.
Have an awareness of language and, if not a native speaker,
be at C1/C2 level.
Have the potential to develop the necessary skills to
become teachers.
Have an education to a level equivalent to that required
for entry to higher education.
Be aware that the course is demanding and intensive
and must be attended fully.
