The Cambridge ESOL examinations in general English proficiency, organised by the University of Cambridge, are recognised in over 150 countries and are taken by over 2 million people a year.These exams are designed to measure a wide range of abilities. They range from the more basic exams (KET and PET), aimed at students who are just starting to learn English, to the more advanced examinations (FCE, CAE and CPE) for students who are more proficient.The Cambridge Professional English examinations (ILEC and BEC) are aimed at professionals seeking to attain an area-specific English language qualification.The exams are internationally recognised by universities, employers, and government departments and ministries, and are for life; they do not need to be re-taken. All Cambridge ESOL exams correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR), which measures ability to use language at six different levels, ranging from A1 to C2.
