Our mid-week FREE excursion this week is to Colchester. Colchester is the oldest recorded town in Britain and has a long, fascinating history. In 44 AD. the Romans invaded Britain and stayed for about 450 years. In the early part of the first and second century Colchester was the capital of Roman Britain and called 'Camulodunum' . London (Londonium to the Romans) was then only a quiet trading post. There is a Castle to see and lots of places to explore. We have a special rate for entry and a tour of the castle, including the foundations and the dungeon. The cost of entry at the party rate is 80p. and the tour is 50p. The tour begins at 1400 and 1545 so don't be late. Names as soon as possible please if you want to go on the tour.
For the rest of the afternoon you are free to walk around Colchester town centre and maybe do some shopping or just stroll in the beautiful Colchester Park.
There is a large, well-equipped Leisure Centre at the bottom of the Park and see the Notice board (or ask Graham or Elisabeth) for more details if you prefer to go swimming - there are flumes, cascades, whirlpools and rapids to enjoy also.
Meet outside the Castle Park at 1800 and walk with your teacher to CESC - our Main Language School in Colchester. Time for our weekly barbecue! There will be burgers, hot-dogs and soft drinks. All free!!! The disco begins around 1900 Dance till you drop but be ready to leave the school at 10.00 p.m. and the coach should be back in Clacton at 10.30 p.m. Don't forget to ask your family for a packed lunch!
