International Language Holidays - Travel to Colchester From London Airports

From London Heathrow

BY TRAIN: Go to the Underground Station and buy a ticket to Liverpool Street Station. Take the Piccadilly Line (dark blue on maps and signs) and change trains at Holborn to the Central Line (red) which goes to Liverpool Street Station. Change to the main line station and buy a ticket to Colchester then take the train to Colchester. There are trains every twenty minutes.
At Colchester station take a taxi to the address you have been given. Total cost including taxi to host family is about £27 Total travelling time to Colchester is about 2 hours. [You can also travel directly on the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station and then take the Circle Line (yellow on maps) to Liverpool Street Station. This saves you half an hour and costs about another £10]

BY BUS: Go to the Central Bus Station and look for service to Stansted airport. You can buy your ticket on the bus or at the booking office. Departure times, every hour every day of the year. Change at Stansted and get the coach to Colchester. Get off the bus at Colchester railway station where you can get a taxi. Total cost including taxi to host family is about £25. Total travelling time to Colchester is about 3.5 hours. This avoids travelling through London. There may be about a 45 minute wait at Stansted.

From London Stansted

BY BUS: There are buses every hour from 0600: to 24:00 [no coaches on 25, 26 December] Take a taxi from Colchester Station to your family. Total cost including taxi is about £15. Total travelling time to Colchester is about 60 minutes

From London Gatwick

BY TRAIN: Go to the main line rail station and buy a ticket to Colchester. Take the train to Victoria Station and change to the Underground. Take a train on the Circle Line (yellow on maps and indicators) to Liverpool Street Station. Change to the main line station and take the train to Colchester. At Colchester station take a taxi to the address you have been given. Total cost including taxi is about £30. Total travelling time to Colchester is about 3 hours.

BY BUS: Travel to Victoria Coach station in London from Gatwick. There are coaches every half an hour. Take a coach from Victoria to Colchester. There are three or four coaches each day. Take a taxi from Colchester bus station to your family. Total cost including taxi is about £25. Total travelling time to Colchester is about 3.5 hours.

BY TAXI: We can arrange for a taxi to meet you at the airport if we know your time of arrival, flight number, arrival airport, departure airport and day. The cost in 2005 is £92 from Heathrow and from Gatwick and £50 from Stansted. Use only a taxi sent by us. NEVER take a taxi picked up at the airports. This will cost more than £150!!

TAXIS: Taxis are always available at Colchester North Station [main] train station when you arrive to take you to your host family and should not cost more than £5-£7. Sometimes your family will collect you if you call them before you arrive. You must check all times and your itinerary before you travel.
